Well, as anybody from india who is living in usa can attribute, the ethinic troubles of describing yourself is quite a hassle. If you say, you are an "
indian", it would very well represent American Indians (a.k.a Native Americans). If you say, you are an "
East Indian", it historically represents pretty much everything that British used to occupy.. (incl. a whole bunch of nations).
Official US Census just lumps everyone as "Asians". [Links:

]. Apparently, close to 1.8 millions claim to be "Asian Indians" living here.
Hence, my ethinicity is Asian Indian..
